The Unique Style of Lou DeSerio

Creating dramatic and enduring landscape photographs is no easy task. Sometimes years of research and returning to places many times is necessary.

First - to record the scene and reproduce it at its finest a large camera is still required. Lou DeSerio uses a 4"x5" view camera so that enlargements from such a large sheet of film render details, tones, colors etc. crystal clear so that the viewer feels as if they are in the scene themselves.

Second - to render the scene recorded on the film, Lou DeSerio processes his own film to exact, controlled and manipulated procedures so as to faithfully capture all the nuances of color and light that he so painstakingly recorded.

Third - he makes all his own prints. Printing is where the magic takes place and the photographer gets to make personal choices as to the brilliance, the contrast, the saturation and details of the final image. It often takes days to work out the strategies, techniques and tools necessary for the final outcome.

IlfoChrome

IlfoChrome (formerly known as CibaChrome) is the only color photographic material in the world that is manufactured with ALL the colors already on it. These layers of colors are like colored cellophane. They are pure AZO metallic dyes that are transparant in nature. They are layered on a brilliant white base material and when light strikes the image, it passes through the colors, hits the white base and reflects back through the colors thus producing the most brilliant, the most saturated and the sharpest possible color print in existence.

Because of the unique dyes used in IlfoChrome, they are also the most stable and longest lasting color photographs in existence.
